Sodexo Makes Changes to Dining Hall Services By: Katie Schweigardt
Food is a critical part of campus life. Food is where people gather to eat, hang out, and study on a college campus. Bellarmine’s three main food spots on campus are the University Dining Hall (UDH), Palio, and Cafe Ogle. From last year to this year, Bellarmine’s dining services have made changes because of student demand for them.
“At that time we just heard a lot of complaints about people not liking having to go all the way to UDH in the morning and that they would just prefer Palio breakfast and we wanted to make that change for them,” Graicey Greenwell, Student Government Association (SGA) food service subcommittee head, said.
The change that students wanted was for UDH to be fully closed on weekends and Palio to be the only dining service open because it is closer to the dorms. In addition to this change, Palio now offers a buffet along with its kiosk ordering.
“I don’t really like it because I feel like the food options at UDH were much more better than what they are this year,” Jocelyn Vasquez, a junior double major in communication and health humanities, said.
Other students said they enjoy the changes made to Palio.
“But I do like the buffet, and there’s always like a salad or fruit and you can get as many entrees as you want for just one swipe,” Bobby Lefevers, a junior exercise science major, said.
While some students appreciate the variety and convenience of the buffet, Greenwell said there is still room for improvement when it comes to the quality and freshness of the options.
“With UDH, I do think we could have better options. Of course there’s budget limits to what we can provide. But I’ve advocated for more fruit and more fresh food as well because I know it's appealing to the eye and that’s what you want to eat,” Greenwell said.
