Stay ‘Locked’-In at Spring Retreat

By: Lizzy Coons

Bellarmine will bring back its semi-annual lock-in retreat next semester, and it is called “Ready Set Lead.” The retreat starts Jan. 3 at 7 p.m. in the Surf and is open to all students.

Assistant Director of Student Activities Kaitlyn Nally, said: “There are going to be a lot of games. We are getting inflatables, and there will be fun food such as Insomnia cookies, Taco Bell, and pizza — all the good stuff.”

The activities include team-building exercises, team obstacle courses, and scenarios where students must focus on how to use the people around them as resources.

Junior Madyson Lira said she plans to attend the retreat for the first time.

“I didn't get to participate in the last retreat because of Covid, so I am excited to see what it is all about and have a good time with my friends. I am involved in a lot of different organizations here, so getting the opportunity to learn more about being a successful leader is a big bonus," Lira said.

Sophomore Katie Feduccia has helped plan the event.

“We are really excited to see it all come together and give students the opportunity to learn important leadership skills while also getting the opportunity to branch out to meet new people. We have a lot of fun things planned and hope to see a lot of students take advantage of this opportunity,” Feduccia said.

Nally said there will be different sessions on leadership that will teach students how to grow as leaders personally, how to work as a team, and how to figure out some different skills they can take with them as they grow.

Feduccia said: “For the speakers, we are trying to keep it in and around the campus community. We are going to have leaders who are students on campus, people from the Counseling Center and the OII who will come in and give presentations.”

Students can sign up for the retreat on Engage, and the deadline is Dec. 30.
