Lou City soccer looks to host BU students

Over 500 new faces have made their way onto Bellarmine’s campus, waiting eagerly to see what’s in store for this school year. Louisville is the largest city in Kentucky and is home to the only professional soccer team in the state. As a first-year who might be new to Louisville, it is essential to find events off campus to understand the city entirely better.

Louisville City is an American professional soccer club based in Louisville, Kentucky. Their next home game is Sept. 17 at Lynn Family Stadium downtown. 22-year-old Wilson Harris joined Lou City this year and has invited Bellarmine students to attend their home game. “If you’re from Louisville or you have family in Kentucky, just come on out and support,” Harris said, “and we feel the difference, of course when we’re on the field, it really pushes us forward, and I think it gives us an edge over the other team.”

Chloe Smith, a junior Nursing student, said she is a soccer fanatic. “When you go to a Lou City game, the atmosphere is super fun. There’s someone leading the cheers, there’s good food to get, and a shop where you can get shirts and accessories,” Smith said. Bellarmine students receive a discount by showing their student IDs. “Since the stadium is in downtown Louisville it is near the walking bridge and Ohio River, so there’s a great view and a lighted up city when the game is over,” Smith said.

The cost for a Lou City ticket starts at $21. The stadium is 4.2 miles from campus and takes approximately 17 minutes by car to get there. Ubers usually range from $7 to $15, depending on the time. You can park on one of the side streets near the stadium to avoid parking costs. Seat Geek has parking passes ranging from $10 to $50. There are four lots you can buy a pass for; Green, Purple, Gold, and Grey lot. Green is the cheapest, while the rest are $40 and up. TARC bus system is another transportation option. The ride will take 30-45 minutes due to other stops, so plan accordingly. The bus arrives and drops off at the Peace Hospital right across campus. Tarc card passes are available online; 24-hour access costs $3.50.

Peyton Fosnough, a junior soccer player at Bellarmine, has attended several Lou City games. “Since I’ve gotten here, I’ve been to a few Lou City games, and it’s always exciting to go out and support guys in the area who play soccer,” Fosnough said. If you run into any issues with transportation, there’s no need to stress; Bellarmine men’s soccer is hosting Central Arkansas on Sept. 17 at 7:00 P.M. and encourages students to attend and support the Knights! Admission is free by showing your student ID at the gate.
