BU Radio to Celebrate College Radio Day

By Rebecca Waskevich

Bellarmine Radio is one college station out of hundreds across the world participating in College Radio Day.

On Oct. 6, Bellarmine Radio DJs and staff will be in front of Horrigan Hall giving away free gear, talking to students about the importance of college radio and raffling off new music releases.

Andrew Hampton, Bellarmine Radio member, said: “College Radio Day is important to me as both a celebration of our station’s uniqueness and as a recognition of the creative power of our student DJs.”

Kyle Barnett, faculty adviser for Bellarmine Radio said, “Bellarmine Radio was the first college radio station chosen to win a goody box [from College Radio], and we’re going to be passing that on to students.”

According to collegeradio.org “The aim of College Radio Day is to raise the profile of college radio stations across the country and encourage increased student participation in the medium of college radio.”

Barnett said Bellarmine Radio wants to be more diverse and more international to appeal to the university’s high achieving students.

For Barnett, the mission of Bellarmine radio is important. “College should be transformative, and we want to be a part of that,” he said.

Hampton said he is proud Bellarmine Radio will celebrate the power of student media on College Radio Day.
